World Flowboarding Championships set to take place in under 3 weeks

In a few weeks, the best flowboarders in the world will descend on Wave House’s first European venue to compete in the fourth annual, global event of its kind.  The World Flowboarding Championships will exhibit the pinnacle of the sport’s athleticism across three main divisions:

Pro Men’s Flowboard

Pro FemaleFlowboard

Pro Bodyboard

All competitors will compete in two separate disciplines in each division. The Pro Men’s and Female Flowboard competitors will compete in both the strapped and strapless disciplines and the Pro Bodyboard competitors will compete in both the Prone and Drop Knee disciplines.  Each team rider will be contributing valuable points towards the country they represent, as well as their own score, which will determine the events world title winners.

This annual event will be crowning 9 different world champions. This unique format will allow riders to battle it out for points to take home the title.

Teams are being welcomed from Singapore, South Africa, UAE and the USA to take part in an event that will guarantee spectators the most progressive flowboarding on the planet in a formidable venue built to host events.

Last years local South African rider, Clayton Barker took home the title in the Pro Men’s Flowboard division proving that he was the best all round rider with Greg Lazarus coming in second and fellow USA team rider Eric Silverman coming in 3rd. With the USA team winning the 2010 and 2011 titles back to back, they will for sure be a target for this year’s upcoming event.

In the Pro Female Flowboard division, USA team rider Amy Stevens ran over the competition winning all three disciplines and will be returning to defend her title. The Pro Bodyboard division was highly contested but current world champion representing team South Africa, Billy Tennant will be travelling across the globe to defend his title for the 4th year in a row.

History of the FLOW Championships:Every sport needs its world cup, and this is the competition that defines the greatest FlowBarrel flowboarders in the world.  The competition was launched in 2009 during the grand opening of Wave House Sentosa, Singapore, when riders from all over the globe descended on the venue to do battle.  The second event was hosted again in Singapore in 2010 and was even more successful with more competitors and more spectators. Last year, in 2011, the event went to Wave House Durban, was sponsored by Malibu Rum, and was live-streamed to a global audience. Each year the event has grown and we are expecting 2012 at the new Wave House in Mallorca to be the biggest and best yet.
