Wave Loch Founder & CEO Tom Lochtefeld
Tom Lochtefeld is the founder and CEO of Wave Loch, the most successful “wave maker” in the world. As of 2014, his wave attractions are installed in over 200 installations in 35 countries. He is the inventor of the sheet wave attractions FlowRider® and FlowBarrel®, the Olympic destined Surf Loch SurfPool™, the global sport of Flowboarding®, and the Wave House® and Flow House® venues currently operating in 10 locations around the world, with more in various stages of development. Mr. Lochtefeld has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, FORBES, Men’s Journal, Los Angeles Times, ESPN The Magazine, National Geographic, and many trade and local publications. His inventions have been featured in two major motion pictures, music videos, the Discovery Channel, CBS Sports’ College Championships, and MTV. He holds over 100 patents worldwide, and his inventions have set the bar and become the standard for all artificial waves.
Honing his skill at “Big Rock”, the California surf-trepeneur spent the first years of his life riding in the tube at this famous La Jolla surf break – and the rest of his life working to re-create that thrill and export it to the world.

A new kind of surfing wave pool that immediately absorbs wave energy and allows many waves per minute, and not minutes per wave. Forget the troubled, inefficient wave machines of the past. SurfLoch WaveSystems™ innovative surf pool designs offer: consistent, quality waves with unprecedented frequency in the smallest physical footprint, and with the greatest energy efficiency. While the few surfing wave pools in existence have struggled to make ends meet, our sister company, Surf Loch LLC, has dedicated over 10 years to the development and refinement of its proprietary technology to make what was once infeasible, now financially viable and ready to deploy. Available in a variety of designs to match your business model and customer base, and available in three aquatic systems: pool, lake and lagoon. Invented by a surfer, inspired by surf history and showcasing the future of simulated wave technology, Wave House, our turn-key entertainment venues, epitomize the surfing lifestyle: sand, music, sunshine, sunsets, barbeque and spirits, overlooking a magnificent man-made beach environment.
The most successful artificial wave in the world, with over 200 installations (including several Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships), FlowBarrel® and FlowRider® sheet wave technology was invented by Tom Lochtefeld, and provides a wave riding experience for beginners and experts alike in the space of a backyard swimming pool. These sheet waves spawned the birth of the international sport of Flowboarding, and every year competitors from around the world meet for the annual FLOW Championships on a FlowBarrel®.
